Do you know ChatGPT?

 AI-ChatGPT

At first, let us see several pictures.

I think it wrote better than I could have, and the summary is very accurate, haha.

When you encounter this situation, do you feel happy or fearful? Whenever new technology emerges or existing technology makes significant advances, I often encounter friends discussing the pros and cons of technology.

For example, using ChatGPT as an example, it can play a significant positive role in our teaching by helping us collect materials, provide ideas, and offer more assistance to students.

However, it can also have negative effects on students and ourselves if we become overly reliant on ChatGPT, losing our own ideas and living in fear of eventually being replaced by artificial intelligence.

My first viewpoint is that humans invent and develop technology, and humans also use technology.

Technology itself is neither good nor bad, and the results depend on how humans use these new technologies.

I believe that we should fully explore the benefits brought about by new technologies and avoid the negative effects of inappropriate use.

As an English teacher, when using ChatGPT, we should also hold this belief and leverage its advantages to help us teach and improve our teaching abilities.

What do you think about the emergence of ChatGPT? Please feel free to leave a comment in the comment section so we can discuss it together.

Quillbot-save your time.

 Quillbot

Have you seen this advertisement?😉😆😂😁 I see it every time when I open a video on YouTube. The advertisement is for Quillbot, a website I frequently use.

Quillbot is an AI writing tool that can help users improve their writing by reorganizing and restructuring sentences, changing vocabulary and grammar, and providing synonyms and related words, among other features.

For teachers

Quillbot can save time by using its features to rewrite or check the grammar of teaching materials to ensure their accuracy.

Quillbot is most famous for its paraphrasing ability and offers various writing modes to meet different writing needs. It can provide teachers with more ideas when teaching writing classes.

Its features also include collaborative writing, summarizing, generating citations, and translation, all of which can be useful for English teachers. Therefore, I believe that this website is a valuable resource for teachers to utilize.

It can also be extended to be used within Word documents, which is undoubtedly another highlight of Quillbot.

For students

Improving students' writing skills: Quillbot can be used as an auxiliary tool to help English teachers improve their students' writing skills. Teachers can guide students to use Quillbot's synonym and related word functions to help them expand their vocabulary and language expression ability.

Assisting students in restructuring sentences and paragraphs: Quillbot provides the function of paraphrasing and restructuring sentences and paragraphs. English teachers can use this function to help students learn how to improve their writing style and logical thinking ability.

Increasing students' writing efficiency: Quillbot can help students quickly check and improve their writing, thus improving their writing efficiency and quality. This can make it easier for English teachers to monitor students' progress and achievements, and provide them with better feedback and guidance.

However, when recommending Quillbot to students, it is important to not only consider its benefits but also the potential negative impact if used improperly.

By accident, I found Padlet.

Padlet

This screenshot is from Moodle at theUniversity of
Warwick, and the content is provided by Tilly.

I found that this website is from the ICT course at the University of Warwick, provided by Tilly. When I saw this interface, I found it very interesting. It's like a digital sticky note where you can attach your own ideas and questions. I think it is a very useful website for exchanging ideas and answering students' questions.

How to use it

1. Visit the Padlet website (https://padlet.com/).
2.Create a new Padlet board. Click "make a Padlet," choose a layout and theme color, and name the board.
3.Add content to the Padlet board. You can drag and drop or copy and paste images, links, videos, and text onto the Padlet board. You can also set a title and description for each piece of content.

4. Set the privacy settings for the Padlet board. You can choose to make it public, password-protected, or private, and also decide whether to allow other users to edit it.

5. Once you're finished, you can share the Padlet board link with others to view and add content.

Padlet for English teaching

Vocabulary practice: Teachers can create a Padlet board and add some vocabulary or phrases to it, and ask students to add pictures or descriptions related to them. This can help students better memorize and understand the meanings of the vocabulary.

Organize discussions: Teachers can post a topic or question on Padlet and ask students to discuss it. Students can express their opinions and viewpoints on the board, as well as reply to other students' comments, which can help improve their English speaking and communication skills.

Share resources: Teachers can add useful English learning resources such as course links, articles, videos, and audios to the Padlet board and share them with students. This can help students better understand and learn English.

Student work showcase: Students can showcase their writing works, speech videos, short films, etc. on the Padlet board. This can help students improve their English writing and speaking skills, as well as stimulate their creativity and confidence.

In addition to these examples, how to use Padlet is up to you.

👀👀👀note: All screenshots except the first one are from Padlet.

TED for English teaching

Providing authentic language materials: TED talks and videos offer authentic language materials from around the world, including different accents, intonations, and speeds, which help students to get exposure to real language environments and improve their listening and speaking abilities.

Rich themes and topics: TED covers a wide range of themes and topics, from science and technology to culture and arts, providing a broad selection of topics and learning resources for English language teaching.

Diversity of learning materials: In addition to TED talks and videos, TED also provides various learning materials such as PPTs, exercises, and study guides, offering rich teaching resources for English language teaching.

Benefit for four skills: When we use TED as classroom material, it can have a positive impact on students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

TED- not only English

However, I personally believe that as English teachers, when using TED as teaching material, we should not only focus on language learning but also guide students to listen and discuss the relevant ideas contained in TED talks.

TED is committed to promoting the dissemination of ideas and knowledge, bringing innovative thinking and ideas from around the world to people.

Global perspective: TED talks and videos deal with hot issues and social phenomena from around the world, helping students to understand cultural differences and similarities among different countries and fostering a global perspective.

Interaction and collaboration: In English classes, TED talks and videos can initiate discussions and exchanges among students, encouraging interaction and collaboration and improving English communicative competence.

I believe that English teaching should not only focus on language education, but also allow students to experience the different cultures and ideas that language embodies.

Another useful tool for English teachers: Duolingo

 Duolingo

Thank you back to my channel again, today I will share another useful tool for you!

The brief instroduction

Duolingo is a free language learning app that can be used to learn over 30 languages. It uses gamification, such as challenges and tasks, to help users improve their language skills. The main interface of Duolingo has a task bar on the left side, and a game-based language learning interface in the middle. Duolingo is available on both a website and an app, making it accessible on various devices and for different scenarios.

This is its store interface, where students can earn rewards through challenges, completing tasks, and other activities, which can be exchanged for virtual cards that can be used on Duolingo.

This is the leaderboard of Duolingo, where students' learning and progress can be ranked based on their performance in completing lessons and challenges. This can be a great source of motivation and drive for students.

Advanteges and audiences

1.Duolingo is not only used for students to learn English, but it is also a platform for language teachers to communicate. Here, you can communicate with language teachers from all over the world, share your experiences and ideas.

2.Personalized: Duolingo's learning content and homework are based on the initial test results, which means that Duolingo can provide corresponding learning content based on the different situations of students. This means that English teachers can use Duolingo as a supplement to after-class learning, allowing students to learn according to their own situation.
3.Planning and monitoring: Duolingo allows users to set their own learning plans, which means that periodic learning content can be provided for students, which is helpful for students to develop the habit of continuous learning. Teachers can also use Duolingo to monitor students' learning progress, learning time, etc., which can help teachers better understand students' individual situations.

In summary, while Duolingo is suitable for most learners, it can also be used by teachers to supplement their teaching and facilitate communication with peers.

Disadvanteges:

1.Lack of interaction: While Duolingo offers social features, it still lacks genuine interpersonal interaction, which may not be conducive to certain learners.

2.Single focus on learning: In using Duolingo, you may find that it mainly increases your mastery of vocabulary and grammar through exercises, without covering other language abilities.

👀👀👀note: All screenshots are taken from the official website of Duolingo.

Kahoot and English Education

Kahoot!

What is Kahoot?

https://create.kahoot.it/creator/dd401a05-13d5-46d6-8242-25e9c2ac74fd

This is a link about Kahoot that I have created. You can see and try it.

Kahoot is a game-based interactive platform that can create a fun learning space for students, enabling them to participate in class through competitive quiz games.

Why I recommend Kahoot for English teacher?

1. Easy to use

Kahoot is a web-based language learning platform.

You can easily find it on Google with its name, and it doesn't require any downloading.

You can start using it just by opening it, and go on a Kahoot journey anytime and anywhere you want.

2.Many founctions

Kahoot can not only be used as an activity or game in the classroom, but it can also help you prepare classroom content by organizing your materials in a better way.

With a wide variety of games available on Kahoot, you can choose the appropriate game to design based on your learning goals and content. These diverse and interesting games can help you better conduct your language classroom.

My thought of Kahoot!

1. Highly interactive

During the use of Kahoot in the classroom, it displays the remaining time on the left and the number of people who have answered on the right in real-time. After the students make their choices, Kahoot will directly display whether their answer is correct. Kahoot's interactivity is very strong, it can stimulate students' participation and thinking, enhance their learning interest and motivation. Through quiz games and discussions, students can interact with their classmates, solve problems together, and improve their cooperation and communication skills. At the same time, teachers can collect and analyze students' feedback and performance in real-time on the Kahoot platform, providing useful reference for subsequent teaching adjustments and improvements.

2. Motivation

I think the biggest highlight of Kahoot is that it can provide motivation for students to learn. Every time a student answers a question, their corresponding score and rank will be displayed. This can effectively stimulate students' fighting spirit, allowing them to learn knowledge autonomously, review knowledge, and listen carefully in class. I think this is very important for language teaching.

Audience and limitations

I think the main audience for Kahoot should be 👆new English teachers👆, as it can provide more fun and increase their interest and motivation in learning English. In terms of content, Kahoot is more suitable for learning vocabulary, reviewing knowledge, and judging concepts.

However, one limitation of Kahoot is that although it can be very helpful for learning English, it is still a 👎game👎, which may make students overly focused on the form of the class rather than the knowledge itself. Additionally, the ranking mechanism of Kahoot may motivate students to participate, but it could also have a 👎negative impact👇 on those who rank lower.

Worth to read or not ?

👀TODAY, I have read Larry Ferlazzo(the first blogger)' blogs, who is an educational blogger.

There are some of my comments on his blogs that will assist you in promoting your own sites.

Here are some advantages and downsides👍👎.
Advantages👍

1.There is a category page that assists users in locating their desired blogs as quickly as possible.

3.There is a user-friendly layout to assist new readers in following his blogs.

Disadvantages👎

1.There are less opinions, views, and comments from his own perspective; he merely is a carrier.

screenshot from Larry Ferlazzo on his blog

2. The homepage is generic, and the viewer will not be interested in reading his other blogs.

3.He lacks a consistent style or framework.

👌Overall, this blogger provides various resources to us, such as new messages and videos, that can assist you in comprehending your topic of interest. However, as a blogger, his blogs are simplistic and common, and he frequently publishes new ones.

If you want to learn more, you can click here, and there is also a video from Youtube can help you how to start a blog.💏💏💏
